Student Silver Bullion Grants
History of Scheme
The student silver bullion grant scheme was started in 1994, to encourage metalwork students to have the technical experience of making up their designs in silver rather than in base metal. Recipients have benefitted with their work being shown at New Designers, representing their college, as well as winning prizes in the Goldsmiths’ Craft Council Awards. Some students go on to be successful in the Young Designer Silversmith Award Competition.
Silver Bullion Grants
Promising students are selected by college tutors following the approval of the Curator. Silver bullion grants are £400 each. The college buys the bullion for the student and obtains the grant from the Company. It is possible for a college to have more than one grant. Students are allowed to keep the finished article but photographs of the work must be sent that year to the Company for its records.
